When Vanity Fair was first published in the 1800's, the overall purpose of the site was to be a weekly humorous paper in which people in Manhattan, New York could laugh at. It then made its way over to Britain from 1868-1914, in which the weekly articles were more focused on society's upper class. During these time period, multiple depressions and times of hardships were occurring in the U.K. and Vanity Fair provided a look at the good life inspiring people and maybe even evoking a little jealously among the common man or woman. The next step in Vanity Fair's popularity gain was to go ahead and not only show just the rich of the U.K. but of the whole world and has been exposing and bashing them ever since gaining more popularity through social media.
